Breaking the Cycle of Child Abuse
As Miss Sugar Land's Outstanding Teen 2020, my desire is to bring awareness to child abuse by sharing my dad’s personal story and raising money to help Child Advocates, especially now to help serve the spike in child abuse cases during the COVID-19 stay-at-home order.
Right now, as we are social distancing, it is our responsibility as neighbors to look out for one another, especially any children at risk.
There is much to share about my dad’s story, and we hope to one day share the details of how he overcame his dysfunctional home life. His biological father was in prison, so he lived with a struggling mother and an abusive stepfather. Football brought people into his life that showed him how to succeed. He became the first college graduate in his family. Unfortunately, my dad’s brother went down a dark path and died of a drug overdose.
My dad was a dreamer and believer and broke the cycle of abuse through forgiveness, a good circle of influence and education. This is why I want to share my dad's story on this platform. I know his journey will inspire others, as it already has for so many.
Please lift up these children in your prayers and, if you are able, consider donating to Child Advocates of Fort Bend, they are transforming lives and breaking the cycle of abuse in Fort Bend County.
Alternatively, you can support your local community by finding a Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program in your city.
