The Nyadire Connection (TNC) is in the process of rebuilding the fifth of six rural health clinics in Zimbabwe, Africa. We need $150,000 to complete the project. Please help.
The hospital in Nyadire, Zimbabwe has responsibility for six rural health clinics in the region, each of which serve between 5,000-8,000 people in the local community and are the primary medical care facility for people with malaria, cholera, hepatitis, and other infectious diseases—many of whom walk many miles to get there. A high percentage of women deliver their babies at these clinics. Pre- and post-natal counseling is provided, as well as immunizations for babies and children. Yet, despite their critical importance, the two clinics remaining to be rebuilt are in different states of disrepair, with no running water, flush toilets or reliable electricity and not enough space to serve their patients.
Several years ago, TNC began to renovate the six clinics, in partnership with Nyadire and the Zimbabwe Ministry of Health. Since then, four clinics have been completed on-time and on-budget and are now providing significantly enhanced care to the local populations. By providing funding and administrative support, TNC enables Nyadire to contract with a local builder who, in turn, hires local workers to design and rebuild each clinic, for a total cost of about $320,000 per clinic. Local villagers make the bricks by hand and carry them to the build site. Throughout the construction process, TNC and Nyadire regularly monitor and communicate to ensure quality control, and on-time, on-budget projects.
Typical renovations include separate male and female wards, examination and treatment rooms, a drug storage room, a pre- and post-natal care ward, waiting mothers’ housing, housing for the nursing staff, a dedicated water supply system, running water and flush toilets, upgraded solar electrical system, a security fence, and incinerator and waste disposal facility. TNC needs just $150,000 more to complete the rebuild already underway at the Mashambanhaka clinic, pictured here. Please help with a tax-deductible donation today. TNC, based in Pittsburgh, PA, is a faith-based, all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that supports and sustains the Nyadire United Methodist Mission in Zimbabwe in this and many other ways.
