Ithna-asheri Muslim Association of the Northwest (IMAN) is collecting Zakat ul Fitr to be distributed to needy families in the Greater Seattle area.
Zakat ul Fitr is an obligation that is due on the night of Eid and needs to be paid before Salaat ul Eid.
Zakat ul Fitr $ amount per head depends on the staple diet of the the person contributing and is equivalent to approximately 3 kilograms of the staple diet.
For example, if the main staple diet is rice and price per pound per rice is $1.50, the zakat ul fitr amount due per head will be $1.50 * 6.6 = $9.90.
If the household is made up of 5 individuals, the amount due will be $9.90 * 5 = $49.50.
The household size is determined as the number of people in that household on the night of Eid.
Given the difficult situation for many because of COVID-19, we recommend everyone to be extra generous and err on the side of contributing more than the minimum required amount.
Contributions made in advance on the night of Eid should be with the intention of loan to IMAN that will convert to Zakat ul Fitr on the night of Eid.
For 1441 AH Zakat ul Firr, IMAN recommends a minimum of $10.00 per head in the household.
Viruses know no borders. Nor should our compassion!
