Dear whomever this concerns,
When I graduated from Appalachian State University in May, I knew I was ending a chapter and beginning a new journey as a recent college graduate. While it was difficult leaving the familiar; Appalachian State University, friends, and family, I decided to join the PULSE program in Pittsburgh, PA.
PULSE cultivates a community of young servant leaders to transform Pittsburgh. They invite recent, college graduates (like myself) to partner with local nonprofits for a year of service and leadership. I got excited about the PULSE program because I wanted the opportunity to learn valuable skills in the nonprofit sector while living in an intentional community with other recent graduates. Joining PULSE allows me the chance to explore a new vibrant city, and form relationships with people from different walks of life.
I am looking forward to starting my first 9-5 job as a college graduate. I’ve only worked a part- time or seasonal job, so this service year is my first experience as a full-time employee. Also, I am looking forward to cultivating a relationship with other fellows who care about serving other people. It’s going to be awesome going through the highs and lows of the year with peers who are dedicated to making a difference in this country and the world. My hope for the year is to become more educated in the social justice issue my nonprofit or workplace is trying to combat. My hope for the year is to grow spiritually and become more confident and conscious to the things I want in my professional and personal life. I’ve never lived outside the southern region, so I will definitely miss my favorite southern comfort foods. Yes, I will miss my region but now I get to learn and appreciate a different regions unique attributes. I am super excited for my year with PULSE.
Part of my first task as a PULSE participant is to assemble a team of people who will support me in this work. I realize that I can’t do this work alone, that I need others to come alongside me and partner with me.
Would you please consider supporting me in this work? I am in the process of raising a minimum of $2500 to cover expenses for this year of service and leadership. Your support will help impact the lives of Pittsburgh’s most vulnerable. Any amount, no matter how small or large will go a long way towards helping me meet this goal! Please fill out the enclosed reply envelope and return it to PULSE, regardless of ability/interest to give financially. You can also give online at www.pulsepittsburgh.org/support. Thank you for your continued investment in my life and in the life of PULSE.
