In 2015 I had two friends (one a co-worker and one a friend from HS) share the gift of life when one needed a kidney donation. I told myself if I ever had the opportunity to do the same, I'd do the same. On Friday October 13th 2017, I was honored to donate a kidney to a friend who had kidney disease through a cross-matching program. I was part of the longest kidney donation chain in the world, the 78th pair. The chain is still going and is now up to 121 pairs.
Like everyone else I'm finding myself with extra time during quarantine and a desire to raise money for a cause that hits close to home; that’s where the 4x4x48 Challenge comes in. What's The 4x4x48 Challenge? David Goggins' 4x4x48 Challenge tests the physical and mental endurance of an individual having them run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours straight.
Starting at 8pm on June 12th I will kick off The Challenge by running 4 miles. I will run another 4 miles at 12am, then again at 4am, and again for every 4 hours there after. My initial thought was to run the David Goggins 4x4x48 but collectively I think we can go beyond that. For every $1,000 raised I will run 4 miles. My goal is to raise $7,200 raising the bar on the challenge to 72 miles in 72 hours. If I raise more than $7,200, I may extend the challenge further. The Challenge will kick off June 12th at 8pm.
If you'd like to join me virtually for one of the runs, I'd love to have the company and inspiration from friends, family, co-workers or anyone up to go on a run! If anyone's interested in running the entire challenge, I'd be happy to organize and have the inspiration.
Here's a link if you'd like to inspire me virtually on one of the runs or if you're interested in joining in on the entire challenge (Sheet 2: Challenge Interest Sign-up ): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1btahiHJwuFL0SpPaLWF4VFK68Nj2tXHy9fJM-R5QWvg/edit?usp=sharing

I'm celebrating the generosity of organ, eye, and tissue donation and raising much-needed funds for the lifesaving work of Donate Life Northwest, with the Home Edition of the Tabor Trot walk through and gathering,
If you are able, please join me in bringing hope to thousands of area children and adults facing the precarious wait for transplant in these difficult times. To help preserve lifesaving programs, leadership volunteers have joined with CareDx to match contributions, 100%, dollar-for-dollar, so your gift goes twice as far.
Before covid-19, few in the US could imagine a dire shortage of lifesaving resources that this community has long understood, and few could fathom how generosity amid terrible loss could bring new hope and connection.
My vibrant Donate Life Northwest community shares these powerful lessons, working together as: brave healthcare professionals; deceased donor families carrying on legacies of generosity; living donors celebrating the joy of giving; grateful recipients paying it forward; and transplant candidates waiting with hope.
