The AGBU Women’s Empowerment Program is designed to transform the lives of individual women, contribute to the broader women’s movement in Armenia, break down barriers and accelerate social change across the country.
The program gives participants the mechanisms and tools to address gender and opportunity inequalities, encourage participation in all spheres of society, and explore ways to become financially independent, all while helping advance Armenia. It also aims to provide a variety of opportunities and access to valuable support systems to educate, enlighten, uplift, and empower women, their homes, communities and the nation.
The AGBU Women’s Empowerment Program in Armenia which began with the launch of a leadership and entrepreneurship course will also include additional educational programs and health and wellness services. The program will also help raise awareness for women’s rights through strategic partnerships with like-minded organizations also committed to combating gender-based inequalities, including domestic abuse and sex selection abortions.
One of the key (and early) components of the program is our free leadership and entrepreneurship course, launched in 2017, which includes hands-on workshops and lectures, mini grants for start-up and scale-up projects, access to industry professionals, and ongoing mentorship and networking opportunities.
Our course participants are ambitious entrepreneurs committed to learning business fundamentals, gaining new skills, discovering innovative strategies necessary for starting a business and running it successfully, and eager to turning an idea or existing business into a sustainable and profitable enterprise. Today, we have already graduated 2 cohorts (25 participants each) with many stories of impressive progress and success and we’re currently working with our 3rd cohort of women.
With donor support, AGBU can expand and increase the program’s role as an effective catalyst for sweeping changes in Armenia. An investment today will not only allow us to offer this course and other programs to more women but will also help AGBU develop extensive workshops and supplementary program components to provide a full-cycle of support.
