Following the devastation of Hurricane Maria in September 2017, YouthBuild Philadelphia is especially excited to visit Utuado, Puerto Rico on this year's Spring Break Service Trip to help rebuild on the island. This year, 18 students and 6 staff members will again work with local city council members on the highest-need projects for one week, from March 21-28, 2018. Students will stay in Sabana Grande, Utuado, and work on rebuilding important infrastructure components following last year's storm.
In addition to restoring and providing service, students will also immerse themselves in Puerto Rican culture, including having opportunities to visit with local residents, learn about the culture and history of Puerto Rico, and tour historic landmarks in Utuado and San Juan. For most of the students on this trip, this will be their first time boarding an airplane, leaving Philadelphia, and visiting a location beyond the continental United States.
In past years, students have returned from this trip with a new perspective on service, travel, and their own lives at home. We hope that you'll consider supporting this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the talented, motivated and generous young people at YouthBuild Philly to serve a community in need.
