Researchers have called this the loneliest generation.
For the past two months, our youth and families have been stuck at home, many in uncertain circumstances. Just as the summer is approaching, social distancing rules have kept most summer camps to 1/2 capacity and many decided not to open their doors. Without access to camps, social isolation will push the lonely generation toward becoming the depressed generation.
So what can we do? If youth can't go to camp, we bring camp to the youth. Across Rutland and Addison Counties, 22 youth-serving organizations have joined together to create our innovative "OUT-of-the-BOX" activity boxes for youth. These boxes will be distributed every other week throughout the summer and are filled with fun educational and life-skill activities to do on their own, with their family, or through Zoom activity classes each week. Each box contains 4-6 hands-on activities, so the kids will find plenty to do. The targeted age group is 8-13, with plenty for the younger and older kids in the house to do if a family works together.
Our community's future depends on how our youth grow, develop, and learn. Let's make this summer an enriching time for their minds and hearts! These boxes can be a bright spot for the kids who are home alone all day. The boxes can be a respite during the emotional strain for kids who are exposed to high levels of dysfunction, addiction and stress. We hope that our activities will be a springboard to even more creative play. We'll stir up their curiosity and see how far they take these ideas.
$25,000 will design and fill 5,000 activity boxes for Southwestern Vermont youth. yet we cannot stop there. In 24 hours of this project going "Live" 900 youth were signed up to receive boxes. The more money we raise, the more boxes we can distribute.
Join us to ensure ALL youth have access to our OUTSIDE-of-the-BOX summer activity boxes.
