We have been living under the cloud of the COVID-19 pandemic since March 2020. For students and teachers blindsided by immediate school closures and thrust into distance learning, the home became the classroom. Chromebooks and hotspots became the educational supplies most in need as students completed their studies and the 2020 school year in the face of incredibly challenging times. Through your generosity, we were able to help many school children continue their studies by supplying these distance-learning tools.
Now we find ourselves midway through the 2020-2021 academic year. The pandemic continues to twist lives and stretch resources, and the urgency for disaster relief is as critical as ever. Millions of children are still solely learning remotely, not having stepped foot in their classrooms since last year. Some are learning in a hybrid environment, with educational resources needed at home and in the classroom. Sadly, many children are suffering from lost learning, unequipped to keep up online, at home, and in modified classrooms for lack of educational technologies, supplies, and support.
We could not imagine the staying power of the virus and stay-at-home orders. Still, we wonder how students and teachers will transition back to school when schools reopen. We wonder what the schools they’ll be returning to will look like? Every day will be a day of discovery.
We do know that classrooms will take on new shapes and sizes, and that learning will not be confined to the four walls of the classroom and bell schedules that move hundreds or thousands of students along.
And we know that the needs for new normal learning will be greater than ever—urgent and costly. This, in the face of deep budget cuts in response to COVID-19 health and economic impacts on already underfunded educational systems.
We are experiencing, first-hand, a global health crisis and its disastrous effects on school districts worldwide, especially those serving underprivileged children. Yours Humanly is steadfast and will continue to raise funds to provide the distance learning technologies so desperately needed by underserved students who are currently learning remotely. And later, as teachers and students move through recovery and back to classrooms, your financial support will help us create safe and productive school experiences for the children.
Please give today and help us help the children most in need during these difficult and unsettled times. We will be there for them—and we ask you to join us.
