BOSTON. We meet again. I am beyond proud to announce I will be running the 2019 Boston Marathon for Youth Enrichment Services (YES). They say, third time’s the charm – so BOSTON, let’s be charming. Let’s set some goals ($10,000), let’s run a few miles (26.2), and most importantly, let’s help make a difference in the lives of Boston’s youth.
Running has become a part of who I am. From day one in the baby jogger, to running away from my sister, to high school - track and cross country, college - running tailgate to tailgate, and now all the way to today - coming up on marathon number seven, I am who I am today because of running. The training, the dedication, the highs, the lows – all have taught me numerous life lessons and paved my way to the woman, the athlete, the person I am today.
It’s sad to think that not everyone has access to that same paved road. While there is still much work to be done to improve our schools, our youth also lack the opportunity to explore their passions and interests outside of the classroom. YES works to ensure all Boston youth, no matter their socioeconomic status, race, gender or education, are able to share in these same experiences from sports. It is their mission to inspire and challenge youth with physical and mental activities that foster life-long respect for themselves, others and the community.
If you know me, you know that last year, Boston 2018, was a challenge, both physically and mentally. Hypothermia at Mile 15, my body was done. My mind was done. But I, myself wasn’t. Running ain’t easy, running a marathon ain’t easy, running a marathon in a nor’easter – ain’t easy. And you know what? Life ain’t so easy either. But sometimes, it takes these “challenges” to reflect and realize life ain’t so bad. On the other side of each challenge is an opportunity. An opportunity to inspire and to make a difference, not only for yourself, but for others. This year, I am ready to make a difference. So what do you say? DONATE and together let’s make a difference!

Team YES is running the 2019 Boston Marathon to raise funds to support YES's mission. YES's 2018 Boston Marathon team raised over $40,000 with a team of four runners. We look forward to raising even more money for Boston youth with four team members running for Team YES in 2019. All funds raised will be used to fund and expand after-school and outdoor programs for the Boston youth who need it most.
