For the past 20 years, Youth Art Exchange (YAX) has existed to make sure that San Francisco public high school students have access to the arts. Our mission is to spark a shared creative practice between professional artists and public high school students, furthering youth as leaders, thinkers, and artists in San Francisco. We do this by offering free arts programming taught by professional artists for public high school students and their communities at [x]space in the Excelsior, YAX Studios at the Columbia Park Clubhouse of the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, and creative spaces citywide. While we’ve been able to quickly adapt our in-person classes to online learning, our scheduled events and workshops have been postponed during this important time of social distancing to protect the health and safety of our community. However, like many nonprofits and small businesses, YAX is facing growing financial uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the extension of the shelter-in-place order.
We’re working hard to maintain our operations during these difficult times. We’re pursuing emergency relief funds that have recently opened up to arts organizations, and we hope that will alleviate some of the pressure. However, fundraising will be critically important to help address our more immediate financial needs, which include maintaining our staff and faculty salaries and paying rent for [x]space.
We’re launching a GoFundMe campaign to help ensure that we’re able to meet our operational expenses and continue to provide essential arts programming to our students and community once we’re able to open our doors again. Your contribution will help us weather this storm and continue our commitment to provide vital access to the arts for San Francisco public high school students. We would be so grateful for any amount you can contribute.
Thank you for being a part of the YAX community!
