Yspaniola is an education-focused non-profit based in Batey Libertad, a community in the Cibao Valley, Dominican Republic. Our goal is to create access to high-quality education in Batey Libertad from pre-K through university. Because of poor access to quality education, many children in the impoverished town of Batey Libertad have difficulty reading and fall behind in school. Yspaniola has worked with community members in Batey Libertad to create a dedicated space that encourages learning and reading: the Batey Libertad Learning Center. We also provide university scholarships to talented students from the community who have no other way to achieve their dream of graduating from higher education.
Yspaniola's Service-Learning trips are vital to our work, as they provide important cross-cultural learning experiences and create Yspaniola Ambassadors across the world!
Yspaniola was started by passionate Yale university students, who recognized a need and took action to respond. In March 2018, a new group of Yale University students will travel to Batey Libertad, where they will be fully immersed in batey life through staying with local families and take part in meaningful inter-cultural exchanges with students in our Learning Center.
Each student funds their own trip, so all of the funds raised by this campaign will support Yspaniola's programs, delivering education and literacy support in Batey Libertad. Please support Yale students' fundraising efforts and give generously today!
