Y Arts is the arts and humanities branch of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit. Our passion is providing low or no cost high quality arts experiences for youth, adults, and seniors.
Photography for Seniors: $30 for six sessions of photography classes for one senior. For generations, the YMCA has been a home for active seniors to socialize and stay healthy. Y Arts knows that in addition to healthy activity, creativity plays a vital role in living a full life. Our Photography for Seniors program offers local seniors the opportunity to learn photo basics from local artists.
Potter’s Wheel at Boll: $100 provides a Potter’s Wheel class for 10 kids Every Saturday at the Boll Family YMCA, Y Arts hosts pottery classes for youth and adults. These classes are open to both members of the YMCA as well as non-members and are a great way to experience the one-of-a-kind tactile and creative experience of working with clay.
Emerging Artist Gallery at Boll: $500 sponsors a month-long exhibit The Marlene Boll Emerging Artist Gallery showcases works by area artist both established and up and coming. We showcase everything from sculpture, to painting, to photography and more. We also feature artwork created as part of community programs at organizations such at Mariner’s Inn, Focus: Hope, and Wayne County Community College. Our sponsor would have visible signage as part of the exhibit, as well as promotion in our monthly newsletter and on our social media.
Media Works: $1,600 will provide a ten-week after school or in-school media class Y Media Works is a digital media initiative that connects local youth to the processes of media development. The program includes a Summer Media Institute based at the Boll Family YMCA, as well as year-round in-school and after-school classes at area YMCAs. Media Works engages youth in areas they are already interested in, marrying creativity and technology to help them find their voices. Additionally, participants work side by side with professional artists/mentors who by example show the many possibilities of creative careers. In recent years, our school year programming has been minimal. Your donation can help us serve more youth!
