On November 15th the Marketplatz on the Wurstfest grounds caught fire and burned to the ground, along with everything inside. One such thing was our Wurstfest Pretzel Booth.
The 10 day Wurstfest festival is one of our biggest fundraisers, and as a non-profit, we look forward to this event each year. Unfortunately, being non-profit means we work with a limited budget. The majority of our funds go towards the mission of our organization, that being the preservation of historic structures and artifacts for the education of future generations, and thus keeping the heritage of New Braunfels and Comal County alive. In working with this mission, the New Braunfels Conservation Society has preserved over twenty historic structures (pre-1900) as well has thousands of artifacts. Each of these wonderful buildings are open to the public through tours and annual events.
Sadly, this means that we do not have much in the budget left over to justify special insurance for an off-site, short once-a-year event.
We lost everything in our booth in the Wurstfest fire and will have difficulty rebuilding. In addition to the obvious things, such as the flooring and countertops, we will need to replace the freezer, microwave, pretzel warmer, as well as installing new plumbing and electrical. How else will we supply the 2020 Wurstfest attendees with our famous pretzels and chocolate covered bacon? So please donate what you can and help us rebuild for a bigger and better Wurstfest in 2020!
