As you know, Covid-19 has had an enormous effect on the performing arts. WTF's upcoming mainstage play FREAKSHOW will now take place online, as will the WOMEN'S THEATER FESTIVAL in July. The transition to digital from live performance presents many unique challenges to WTF. From a hardware perspective, we've had to ensure that all cast members have good cameras, wifi extenders, and lighting in their home. Interactions that flow seamlessly on stage don't read the same on camera, forcing our directors, actors and choreographers to rewrite their entire plan for staging. Props, costumes and makeup are now being sourced from actors' homes rather than our collective arsenal.
This new medium has been a big adjustment for us all, but it is also an opportunity. WTF is in a position to trailblaze, to learn and experiment with this digital frontier and share what we discover with others. We intend to collect coverage and feedback about this process from everyone involved and share it with the masses. Again this takes new resources, talent and time.
That's where you come in! Two generous WTF board members have offered to match up to $1,000 in donations in honor of Giving Tuesday, which is May 5th. That means you can DOUBLE your money by giving to WTF now.
The dollars we earn with this fundraiser will help us to fairly compensate the experts involved with supporting our digital transformation, as well as paying actors and staff. It will also help fund our Vimeo Premium membership so we can bring you our live streams without the lag and glitches characteristic of platforms like Zoom. Thank you so much for your support of WTF during these challenging times.
We are excited to bring you a digital theater experience unlike any you've had before with our upcoming productions of FREAKSHOW in May and the WOMEN'S THEATER FESTIVAL in July. Also check out our Twitch channel and be sure to catch our Giving Tuesday "telethon" on Facebook Live May 5th. We'll be interviewing our production team to learn about the innovations and creative workarounds they are developing for digital theater. We'll also hear about WTF's mentorship program, and hear from the FREAKSHOW cast about the intersection of self, actor and character with regard to the exploitation of marginalized actors. Donate now to DOUBLE your money and help WTF turn $1K into $2K!
