Last year's WRAC ride looked a bit different due to COVID-19, but we are excited to announce that we are BACK!!! This event was originally started as a way to honor our mother and has since grown in meaning as far too many people who are near and dear to us have been impacted by this terrible disease. Please join us on Saturday, June 19th for the 4th Annual Walsh Ride Against Cancer and help us honor and remember all who have had to experience the burden of cancer.
Reason for the WRAC Ride:
Our mother, Margie Walsh, meant the world to us. She was taken too soon after a short but courageous battle with cancer. To say she was a good woman is an understatement. She was modest and respectable, hardworking and nurturing. She also enjoyed her life, often with a cold beer while playing slot machines, but nothing brought her more joy than her family. We will be riding to celebrate her beautiful life and in the hopes of bringing people together to honor her and the lives of others who are fighting, have fought, or have had their lives cut short by this terrible disease.
We chose Father’s Day weekend as the best time for this ride because it is special to our family. Our mother loved camping at Spring lake and when all of her children were grown we started the tradition of camping together every Father’s Day. She loved nothing more than time spent with her family, her husband, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and close friends and Spring Lake was the perfect spot for gathering.
If you are ever near Spring Lake, please stop by the park past campground C to see her special bench and enjoy the views she loved so much!
We will begin in Waukee and end in Jefferson with several stops along the way, including Dallas Center, Minburn, Perry and a few gravel roads that some of us have seen once or twice before.
The ride will end in Jefferson where there is the Wild Rose Casino and Hotel and a Super 8. Our lifelong camping location, Spring Lake, is just a few miles outside of Jefferson.
We invite you to join us for all or part of the ride.
