This year's WRAC ride is going to look a bit different due to COVID-19, but the meaning and purpose remains the same. Please join us by riding the 55 miles in one day or in multiple days this summer as we continue to remember Margie and others who were taken too soon due to cancer while also honoring our friends and loved ones who are currently battling this dreaded disease.
Reason for the WRAC Ride:
My mother, Margie Walsh, meant the world to me. She was taken too soon after a short but courageous battle with cancer. To say she was a good woman is an understatement. She was modest and respectable, hard working and nurturing. She also enjoyed her life, often with a cold beer while playing slot machines, but nothing brought her more joy than her family. I will be riding to celebrate her beautiful life and in the hopes of bringing people together to honor her and the lives of others who are fighting, have fought, or have had their lives cut short by this terrible disease.
I chose Father’s Day weekend as the best time for this ride because it is special to our family. My mother loved camping at the lake and when all of her children were grown we started the tradition of camping together every Father’s Day. She loved nothing more than time spent with her family, her husband, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and close friends and Spring Lake was the perfect spot for gathering.
If you are ever near Spring Lake, please stop by the park past campground C to see her special bench and enjoy the views she loved so much!
