We need your help to support the children and families during this time of uncertainty.
Our 81 year old organization has been impacted by COVID-19 in many ways. As a small non-profit that serves primarily families that are living paycheck to paycheck, Winter Park Day Nursery has often relied on in-kind and monetary donations in order to support our families. Because of the risks of COVID-19, we are not currently taking in-kind donations at this time. Many of our families rely on clothing and toy donations to provide for their children. We also had to restructure our 19th annual Orange Blossom Jubilee (OBJ) event, which is our biggest fundraiser of the year, to be all online. This includes lowered ticket sales and it will not have the same lever of attention or focus that an in-person event would have. The funds raised at this event and through out the year support our scholarship program and crisis funds for famililes direct needs as well as school supplies for our children, cleaning supplies to keep everyone safe as well as salaries and other operational expenses. We have seen how our families have been affected by COVID-19 as many have lost their jobs, had hours reduced or have had to shift to working from home. Many of our families do not feel safe to return to school yet but we are offering a reduced tuition cost for families who wish to reserve their child's spot until they feel ready to have them return. Because of this, as the county and state reopens, we anticipate having fewer students in our building, thus less income from tuition, as we adjust to our new normal. This requires a transition time to adjust to new cleaning policies and new health policies, which in turn creates a need for purchasing more supplies that we anticipate when setting our annual budget. Your support at this time will not only benefit Winter Park Day Nursery, but also our staff and the children and families we serve each day.
