In 2019, World Relief began providing case management and employment services to asylum seekers in the Chicago area. In working with asylum seekers, World Relief came to understand that one of the unique challenges this group faces is a six-month waiting period for legal work authorization. During this period, it is difficult for many to afford housing and other basic expenses. Therefore, World Relief recently put out a call to churches for housing support for asylum seekers. In this call, we, the Loop Church Welcoming the Stranger Missional Community, heard God's call to love our neighbors! In partnership with World Relief, we have committed to cover 6 months of rent ($1400/month) for an asylum-seeking family that is waiting on a work permit.
We have been matched with a family that consists of a single mom and her three kids. They fled violence and abuse in Honduras and also faced trafficking upon arriving to the US. Mom has been diligently working on her legal case for asylum and is currently waiting to receive work permission. Their case worker hopes that this six-month period of stable housing will provide time and space for healing and connection, and prepare the for greater independence in the future.
We invite you to join us in supporting this family. Funds will be collected by Loop Church and then distributed to World Relief Chicago for rent payments. Any questions can be directed to email@example.com.
