Our post-crisis future must be better than before.
We cannot go back to the “old normal” of racist murders, polluted air and water, people in cages and low-paying jobs for communities of color. We need to build something better than before.
In the weeks to come, we will bring people together across racial and partisan lines to dream up and fight for an America that works for low-income and communities of color:
Justice: Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison brought charges against the remaining officers involved in the murder of George Floyd – and upgraded charges on Derek Chauvin to second-degree murder. The officers who violated their oath to serve and protect communities must be brought to justice. We call for accountability. We also call for healing and restoration for George’s family and communities across Minneapolis.
Legislation: We are mobilizing a national, diverse coalition of organizations and federal lawmakers to address systemic flaws in policing across America. We need legislative solutions that will hold police officers accountable, ensure taxpayer dollars are spent towards solutions that actually address public safety, and put an end to police violence and abuses of power, especially against Black and Brown communities.
Opportunity: We must keep building opportunities for Black and Brown communities to live, work, and thrive in a world that is #BetterThanBefore through our programs Dream Corps #cut50, Dream Corps Green For All, and Dream Corps Tech.
We will build community and create opportunities to share your ideas, change public policy, connect with others, and support leaders and programs at the frontlines of change. Together, we can build a country with freedom and dignity for all.
This isn’t something we can do on our own. It will take leaders from every walk of life – leaders like you – committed to building an America that is better than before.
