For generations, Woodlawn Elementary School has been the heart of the Woodlawn community. This is an opportunity to invest in Woodlawn by supporting our kids and families.
Our first goal is to raise $1,000 to make the 2021 graduation special for our 5th graders. These kids have worked so hard and persevered through so much over the past year. They deserve a very special sendoff to middle school.
We encourage you to give what you can, because anything raised above that goal will go to our Woodlawn Community Resilience Fund.
Our school community created this special fund last year to support families who have been hit hard by this pandemic. Some of our families have lost jobs, and others have had to cut back hours so they could stay home and help their kids with distance learning. Other families have been personally impacted by Covid, which we know has disproportionately impacted families of color.
Regardless of the reason, we know how important it is to make sure kids’ basic needs are met so they can focus on learning.
Ms. Mary Evans and Ms. Tiana Sly partner with families to navigate community resources for support with housing, food, utilities, and household essentials, but the need for those community resources is often much higher than the resources available.
That’s why the Resilience Fund is so important. So far our community has helped with over $15,000 of critical family needs, and every additional dollar raised will make a huge impact for Woodlawn families right now.
