'In a dark time, the eye begins to see.' —Theodore Roethke
As Covid-19 continues to thrust the planet into metaphoric darkness—taking lives, ravaging the world economy, and straining nearly every facet of our interconnected world, beauty and light is nonethless emerging.
We find it in the heroism and sacrifice of health care personnel, postal and grocery workers, and so many other essential laborers. We discover it in the sudden shifts in perspective from which we see the possibilities of a new world through the cracks of the old world—a new world where the inequities of old systems might finally be overturned, where our interconnectedness with each other and the planet is re-framed and re-imagined.
As Covid cases continue to surge in the U.S., music, and art of all kinds, is still more vital than ever as we try to make sense of the moment we're in, as we try to find the light in the darkness. 'I Won't Let You Down' is a song started in a single room. But the single room found other rooms with other sounds and voices, and the song grew.
