On Saturday, September 22nd and Sunday, September 23rd we will be holding the 1st Wolfpack Coaches vs Cancer Invitational. Eight teams will come together in this two-day event to raise money for the American Cancer Society's Coaches vs Cancer program.
My name is Sean Farnham and over the past eight seasons I have been a college basketball analyst at ESPN. Four years ago, I was asked to help with Coach Lon Kruger’s Las Vegas Golf Classic for Coaches vs Cancer and I saw first hand the work of so many who have helped to combat this disease that has seemingly touched a majority of our lives.
Two years ago Russell White, head coach of Crespi High School and I began the Wolfpack Club Basketball Team with a focus on the whole, not just the part. We have kept cost low, to ensure that anyone can play with us. The most important word in our program is development, not just as a player but as a person.
For the past 13 years, my father-in-law has been fighting the fight against cancer as he was diagnosed with CLL (Chronic Lymphoma Leukemia). In this journey, he has faced numerous road blocks that if it wasn’t for the advancements made, he might not be with us today. He has been on five different trials that have not only kept him alive, but also allowed him to continue to have a good quality of life. On September 26th he will begin yet another advancement in medicine, a Car T-cell therapy that hopefully will give him the upper hand again.
My Father-in-law’s experience with cancer is becoming more of the norm for people who are in search of opportunities to get the upper hand, to live a high quality of life, and to hopefully win the battle. But it is not without your support to causes like Coaches vs. Cancer, that will help not only those fighting today, but can help find the cure for tomorrow.
The goal for this event is raise $20,000. Any donation of any size helps us get to our goal. Thank you for your support!
