In conjunction with Wilson Crew's 35th Anniversary in 2020, the Wilson Crew Booster Executive Committee launched a 3-year Capital Campaign to achieve our vision of a nationally-ranked public high school rowing team that reflects the diversity of the nation’s capital.
Support this fall is more important than ever with COVID-19 presenting numerous challenges. We have switched over to a small boats program -- singles, doubles, and pairs -- to maintain a safe environment for our athletes, increasing our fall expenses by almost $10,000. We've also had more scholarship requests due to economic uncertainty. In addition, we've had to limit the number of new athletes we can accept due to equipment and coaching limitations -- including pausing our middle school learn to row program until spring.
BUT WE ARE TIGER STRONG AND READY TO MEET THIS CHALLENGE!
To achieve our vision, we need to fund diversity scholarships for our student-athletes and fund our equipment. Your gift to the Wilson Crew Capital Campaign will allow us to offer partial and full scholarships to our athletes in financial need. And, while we wish crew required just a pair of running shoes or a swimsuit, it doesn’t. Your gift will also enable Wilson Crew to have the same high-quality equipment that private school students in the region enjoy.
Consider giving whatever you can afford: $25 or $50 can help defray the costs for our athletes. If you can dig deeper, consider these options:
$600 - a full fall scholarship for a varsity athlete
$300 - a double scull rental for one month
$250 - a single scull rental for one month or a freshman/novice 2-week learn to scull session
$100 - additional coaching sessions for new athletes
ABOUT WILSON CREW
Founded in 1985 with the assitance of Georgetown University, Wilson Crew is still DC's only public school rowing team. Beyond the physical and social benefits of participating in the ultimate team sport, rowing teaches discipline, teamwork, and time-management to our scholar-athletes.
We have a long history of athletes going on to compete at the highest level. Our students have been recruited to row for Dartmouth, Harvard, the Naval Academy, Smith, Stanford, Syracuse, Temple, Tufts, UCLA, Univ of Delaware, Wisconsin, and Yale. We are also proud of Wilson alum Aquil Abdullah (Tiger '92), the first male Black American to row in the Olympics.
