We’d rather be singing, performing for YOU and spreading harmony throughout the Chicago area – but the members of the New Tradition Chorus are sheltering in place. A donation to our GoFundMe campaign – in any amount – would really help us right now and we would be oh-so-grateful.
As the new coronavirus spread, our rehearsal hall closed, plus we had to cancel our spring show and refund lots of presold tickets. Yet some of our expenses continue, including storing our risers and equipment at the rehearsal location, paying for the music we were going to perform on the show, and honoring our director’s contract.
We normally rely on revenue from the spring show to help us continue as an ensemble dedicated to artistic excellence in the barbershop style. Now, we are relying on the generosity of our greater New Tradition family – our friends, neighbors and patrons.
We know there are lots of people who will suffer from this pandemic. We realize that one could view us as “just a hobby” organization. But we know that the Barbershop Harmony Society as a whole and our beloved New Tradition Chorus in particular has literally changed lives for the better.
We’re trying to make plans to do our annual fall “Youth in Harmony” festival for high-school-age singers, and we cover the expenses for that. We’re looking to schedule a show for some time in late summer or early fall (depending on how things transpire with the coronavirus), and we’ll need funds to get that show off the ground. And we still hope to hold our annual holiday show, pay for the music rights, the rehearsal space and the marketing campaign.
So, if you love a cappella singing, especially 4-part barbershop style, please consider making a contribution to our Go Fund Me campaign.
