The goal of this fund is to build a Catamaran set up for wheelchair use. I have been fortunate enough to guest sail on the world’s first purpose-built Catamaran designed specifically for a wheelchair user.
This has driven me try to bring this amazing eye-opening opportunity to more people.
I am an adaptive athlete and founder of Unlimited State of Ability, a 501(c)(3) that focuses on creating opportunities for other adaptive athletes. The goal is to invite people with disabilities to explore and discover sports and activities that are traditionally not accessible.
As an adaptive sailor myself, and after seeing the lack of opportunity for wheelchair-based sailing in Tampa Bay, I have undertaken the project of outfitting and adapting a 30 foot catamaran that can be crewed and operated by wheelchair users.
STATUS / NEEDS
Currently, we are determining the location to pull the boat from the water onto the ground to begin outfitting and working to make it accessible, create the sail rig, and complete the project!
