NYC salt uses a camera as a tool to build futures. Our program combines art education, college preparation, 1:1 mentorship, career exploration, internships, and job placement. It’s a one-stop resource for our students who are immigrants, from low-income families and primarily young women of color who dream to enter the creative industry in NYC.
As our students head back to school in person and in our new studio we have so much to prepare for. We want to welcome our students back with updated computer equipment, new computer lab furniture, and state of the art photography equipment and software- and we need your help!
Your support can provide all of this! Our equipment provides the foundation for our technical skills training, college preparation assistance, and professional development programs. All of this together firmly instills the confidence, responsibility, and interpersonal skills needed to excel in any field.
We serve over 150 young emerging artists annually. Our programs span the school year and are designed as a sequential learning experience over 2-4 years to create a pipeline for artists of color into the creative industry. Not only do we step in where art education is not accessible, we insure that our students succeed and are trained to make money with their cameras.
* Every mentor is a volunteer from an ad agency, studio, or powerful company like The New York Times, National Geographic, and Adobe, etc.
* Every single student enrolled at NYC Salt goes on to college, often as the first in their family to go.
* Every NYC Salt college graduate is employed in their field of study. 85% in the creative industry.
* And almost all students return as young professionals to mentor the next generation: a virtuous cycle of receiving and giving.
NYC SALT is no ordinary photography or visual arts program. It is a collaborative creative community that fosters life-long success and lifts up artistic expression as a career path.
NYC Salt is a family, a school, a bridge, and a launchpad.
