Westcott Community Center provides over 5,000 rides every year to older adults on Syracuse’s East Side who could otherwise not access services necessary to lead full and healthy lives. These residents have long depended and continue to depend on Westcott Community Center’s United We Ride Transportation program to access medical appointments, pharmacies, grocery stores, banks, and the Westcott Community Center congregate meals and Basic Needs Pantry services. These are essential services to so many of our community’s seniors.
All of these transportation needs are met using the Westcott Community Center’s 14-passenger van which must be replaced. Purchased in 2003, the van has come to the end of the line, but Westcott Community Center’s transportation must continue to serve. Even in this pandemic our van is just as essential, transporting food and other essential services to seniors until such a time as we can resume transporting seniors themselves. To do so, our community must come together to purchase a new van. We hope that you will be a part of insuring that seniors on Syracuse’s East Side continue to have access to essential and safe transport.
Our initiative #WestcottCCRides kicked off August 15. Your contribution helps us reach the goal of $45,000 and allow Syracuse’s East Side seniors to age in place with the dignity, safety, and connectedness we all deserve.
