Please join Phoebe and Brett for a very special dinner party, on Friday, April 5th, from 7 to 9pm.
Did you know:
*Every year, 45,000 New Yorkers are incarcerated simply because they can't afford to post bail.
*Clients are three times as likely to have their case settled favorably if they're allowed to return home to fight their cases from a place of freedom.
*95% of clients who make bail appear for all of their court dates.
The Brooklyn Community Bail Fund serves roughly 1,200 New Yorkers every year, individuals who are presumptively innocent and who would have been jailed for their poverty alone or compelled to plead guilty just to go home. As their cases are resolved, the bail the BCBF paid revolves back to the Fund, available to help other defendants in need.
Take a look at their website, brooklynbailfund.org, to see what they do, how the fund works, and what they need.
$1,100 is the average amount the BCBF pays to secure one person’s freedom. $1,100 can make the difference between spending roughly two weeks in jail, and going home.
Every $1,100 we raise helps one of our fellow New Yorkers pay his or her bail.
So come join us on Friday evening April 5th to help us raise this money. We'll have delicious snacks, wine and soft drinks, and lots of information about this important program. You'll have a chance to meet some of the people who run the program and hear how the revolving fund works, and what else the BCBF is doing to end the cash bail system.
You can donate right here to our CrowdRise campaign for the BCBF, or come to the party and donate in person. Or both!
For more information about the party and to RSVP, email bharvey536@gmail.com or phoebetaylor28@gmail.com.
Hope to see you on April 5th!
