Hundreds and thousands of people go hungry in five Southwest Florida counties alone. You know what this means? There are 151,610 people who don't know when their next meal will be. 46,470 of those people are children. As a state alone, 2,806,770 are going hungry and 854,880 are children. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, an unprecedented number of Floridians are experiencing food insecurity. Many are unemployed, homeless, fighting an illness, have unstable sources of income, and more. No one should be left hungry regardless of any predicament. Join our service project to help feed families, children, and seniors so they don’t have to go hungry through this pandemic.
Wellfit Girls, a leadership, fitness and empowerment program for teen girls, teaches us about doing something bigger than ourselves. Our 2020 cohort has decided, as a group, that we want our service project to have a big impact on our local community. We unanimously chose to support Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida in their fight to end hunger. Throughout the month of May we will be collecting money and food for Harry Chapin. In June, we plan to spend a day volunteering at Harry Chapin’s distribution center and their warehouse sorting food.
