Help us support our elders during COVID-19 & earn $15,000 match
Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly, Chicago Chapter has been bringing friendship and hope to Chicago's elders for over 60 years. In those 60 years we have faced many difficult times, but with the support of our community we have always been able to fulfill our mission of alleviating isolation and loneliness by being a friend and advocate for our elders.
During this pandemic our staff and our volunteers are taking extra steps to ensure our elders are safe and know that they are remembered and are an integral part of our community.
Staff members have been using extreme precautions to safely:
- deliver food bags every-other-week to our elders who normally receive food bags once a month
- deliver emergency food and prescriptions to elders as needed
Volunteers or a staffer have been matched with each of our elders to have a weekly phone visit. These friendly phone conversations have created new friendship and have helped to reduce the impact of the isolation elders and volunteers have felt during shelter-in-place.
Volunteers have also been sending weekly cards to our elders - filling up their mailbox and their hearts will well wishes.
Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly is about bringing people together but during this pandemic it is important to find new ways to be connected while keeping everyone safe. We will continue our phone conversations, food bag delivery, and cards of friendship while we pursue new and innovate ways to stay connected, deepen engagement, and alleviate loneliness. We Care and We're Careful. We are committed to our elders, our volunteers, our donors, and our community.
