We are Grace and Claudia, sisters who had the adventure of a lifetime this past summer when we went on a Me to We trip to Kenya. We experienced the beauty and kindness of rural villages in the Maasai Mara as we helped to build a school, met students who work hard for their education, and learned about Kenyan culture. We met local people who welcomed us into their lives and taught us more than we can learn in books. Their stories inspired us and next summer we will travel to Tanzania with Me to We to learn more about this region and volunteer helping to bring water, education, and opportunity to this region we have come to care about.
On our recent journey, we went on a water walk with the mamas. While walking from the river carrying canisters filled with 20 pounds of water, our backs were aching and our arms were buckling, while the mamas did it with ease. Women and young girls in rural villages walk several miles, 2-3 times each day, to the nearest river, to get the water for the day. Collected water is used for drinking, cooking, laundry, and for cattle. Water is collected in plastic canisters weighing 20-50 pounds. This water is unfiltered and responsible for waterborne illnesses. The time-consuming and laborious nature of this task results in girls being unable to go to school. We believe that every person deserves clean water. In rural villages of Africa, access to water equals access to education. When you support H2OneWorld, you support women and children who travel hours each day to haul water for their families. WE builds clean, filtered water stations near WE schools so that girls can get water on their way home from school. Education is opportunity for girls. Girls are then able to give back to their community because of the education they were able to pursue. The clean, filtered water systems not only decrease water pathogens and illness by providing clean water, they lead to a education and opportunity for girls in rural villages.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 to bring clean, filtered water to a rural village in Tanzania. Our fundraisers have included homemade cookie sales at local golf courses and local schools and catering a wedding cake and dessert table at a wedding! Hire us to cater desserts for your next event or party. 100% of proceeds will go toward access to clean water. We will work with you to customize desserts and use fresh, from-scratch ingredients. Thank you for your support!
