As COVID-19 continues to spread with unpredictable curves and inconsistent daily messaging through various media platforms, the future has never felt so unpredictable.
As leaders in the arts community we have a huge responsibility to our youth, their families, our partners and our team. People are looking to us for answers because of our reputation of being solution based leaders who can culturally translate hope to an audience who may not understand how to process the inconsistent messaging that is being thrown at them daily. This includes other professionals, businesses and even the local media who have reached out to us for guidance because ultimately we share a collective responsibility to provide services and information that will help sustain health and hope in our greater communities.
Conversations about nonprofit sustainability have turned into conversations about their survivability. This is more than just a health crisis, this situation has jolted all of us and the way we work. Not only are we unable to serve our youth in our after school sessions we are also dealing with the cancellation of dozens of paid gigs plus understandable grant and donation delays during this pandemic. All of this has had a severe financial impact on our organization's bottom line. As a vehicle for economic circulation between the arts and diverse business sectors we must plan on being able to do our part to provide goods and services through employment and contracted gigs that will contribute to a creative global economic recovery.
TRUE Skool needs your support now. Now, more than ever, our youth & community needs us. And we need you. If you’re able, please make an unrestricted donation which will go towards sustaining daily operations and virtually delivered experiences that will help keep our youth healthy physically and mentally. TRUE Skool is committed to following safety procedures and regulations set in place by the experts based on the guidance of the CDC and as directed by our local government. Summer 2020 Sessions are likely to take place and our mission to develop positive media messaging and intersectional career opportunities for young adults we serve will be more important than ever! Help us save lives , build hope, motivate and encourage a great recovery for us all!
If you’re unable to donate at this time, there are many other ways you can support us! You can advocate for us by sharing our campaign co-workers, family members or friends. Even a quick mention on your social media would mean the world to us!In times like this, we’re reminded of how interconnected we all are. Thank you for being part of our TRUE Skool community. Without you, none of it is possible.
Stay safe and well,Shalina S. Ali & Fidel Verdin ,Co-Executive Directors
