The Waterford Mennonite Youth plan to visit one of the wildest places on earth, according to National Geographic. We hope to connect with the Cofan (A'i) people in the village of Zabalo, Ecuador. Jane & Jerrell Ross Richer of our congregation serve there with Mennonite Mission Network in the Minsitry of Pastoral Accompaniment. This is an opportunity for the MYF to suppport the Cofan ecoturism project that was developed by the community. It provides resources for the community & an opportunity for dignified employment. The Cofan have committed to protecting their land & ecosystem against the increasing pressures to monetize their resources (which would result in degredation of the incredible biodiversity of this part of the Amazon basin).
