As a father of three young women who are BRCA gene positive, I know firsthand how important a mastectomy bra can be to help restore a woman's self image. No parent wants to outlive their children, but when it was discovered all three of my daughters were BRCA 1 positive, I had to face the fact this wasn't someone else's nightmare...it was my own.
I watched as each of my daughters underwent mastectomies and saw first hand how their self image was affected. It simply broke my heart.
Feeling helpless was new to me and like any man, I wanted to make all our pain go away. From the ashes of despair came the idea for Donate Your Bra for a Cause, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that seeks to reshape breast cancer survivors' lives one bra at a time.
We are currently in need of a new high efficiency washer and dryer to clean the daily arrival of used bras donated from women all over the world. In one day we received over 2000 bras, all which needed sanitation before being shipped to women who requested mastectomy bras or needed bras for decency. The cost for a washer/dryer combo is $2500 including tax and delivery. We have selected the Samsung 4.5 cu.ft. High Efficiency Front Load Washer with Steam and Dryer combo which is Energy Star rated.
We are also in need of donations to help pay for the increased cost in shipping out bras to help women reshape their lives after surgery or personal tragedy.
For a donation of $25 we can ship 3 mastectomy bras or 25 new bras to women in need of decent undergarments.
For a donation of $50 or more, we can ship 8 mastectomy bras or as much as 100 gently used bras to women in need.
Our requests for bras grows by leaps and bounds daily, but we need your help to fulfill our mission to reshape women's lives one bra at a time.
