Two years ago, an out of shape 50-something, looking for ways to push back against the coming darkness and reaffirm true American values, signed up for the first 5k of his life. It was the 2017 Run for Refugees in support of IRIS (Integrated Refugee & Immigrant services) based in New Haven, CT. IRIS does good work. They assisted the Syrian family Mike Pence turned away from Indiana (an act both profoundly un-American and un-Christian) when he was governor there, settle in Connecticut. Over the past year they have expanded their legal services to assist asylum seekers who cannot afford legal assistance and, in addition to immigrants and refugees, assisted evacuees from storm ravaged Puerto Rico. I will be participating in the 2019 Run for Refugees again on February 3, 2019, and again asking for donations. The Run for Refugees is IRIS’s primary annual fundraiser. A HUGE thank you to all who gave last year and the year before. These races have helped restore my faith in humanity. Please click on the link below to make a donation and please share widely. I have two goals for 2019. First, to raise more money than last year. Second, to actually RUN instead of walk. Anyone wanting to run/walk with me in 2019 as a "team," please message me. Thank you all.

The mission of IRIS is to enable refugees and other displaced people to establish new lives, regain hope, and contribute to the vitality of Connecticut’s communities. Refugees are men, women and children who fled their countries of origin due to persecution on the basis of their race, nationality, religious belief, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group. Currently, IRIS’s refugee clients come from Afghanistan, Congo, Cuba, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq, Sudan and other countries. IRIS provides refugees with housing, food, clothing, and services such as education, English training, job preparation and placement, health care, and immigration legal aid.
