Please JOIN my team and walk with me on September 29, 2019 from 1:00 - 2:00 at the Terry Trueblood Recreation Area in Iowa City, located at 579 McCollister Blvd. Iowa City.
We will walk on a paved 1.9 mile trail around a lake. The trail is great for wheelchairs, walkers and strollers. Leashed dogs are welcome. Afterwards there will be refreshments in the Lodge.
If you aren't able to walk with me, a donation is appreciated. Any donation amount will help. A minimum donation of $25 is required for a walk t shirt.
Why I Walk.
--I walk to raise awareness of Parkinsons and the need to find a cure. Every nine minutes someone is diagnosed with Parkinsons. By 2040 it is estimated that Parkinsons will be a worldwide epidemic.
I am fortunate to live in Cedar Rapids where the Cedar Rapids Metro Parkinsons Association offers free Parkinsons classes in boxing, yoga, singing, dancing, and exercising.
Exercise isn't a luxury for people with Parkinsons. It is proven to be an important therapy for those with PD. Research has shown that exercise can improve gait, balance, tremor, flexibility, grip strength and motor coordination. Swimming, boxing and the exercise class I am active in promotes socialization, prevents isolation, and I have FUN!
--I walk to help those in Iowa City have access to free classes.
Parkinsons classes in Iowa City are currently held at the Iowa City Senior Center for a per class fee.
Removing cost barriers to exercise will help improve the lives of those with Parkinsons, as I have benefitted.
