WALK WITH ME: SAVE THE DATE, OCT. 27
I’ve done some crazy things in the name of fitness.From a week-long, 500-mile bike ride though the Finger Lakes, to a run-rollerblade-bike race in Brooklyn, to a Turkey Trot in sub-zero temps.
Why? I love a challenge, especially when it’s for a good cause.
As soon as I heard the J is sponsoring a 26.2 mile walk–I was all in. Without knowing the particulars of the event, I said “yes,” I will be there.
And it was an easy yes. I have come to think of the JCC as my home, and developed an appreciation for the J and what this entire campus means to the community. We are far beyond “a gym.” Yes–in the fitness center I see people biking, running, Pilates-ing, dancing Zumba, and lifting weights. Sweating and smiling together–sometimes even more when the workout ends.
I also see friends playing Pickleball, grabbing lunch in the cafe, and making weekend plans. I see toddlers holding hands, teens high-fiving on the basketball court, and campers coming into their own on the ropes course.
This resonates far beyond our walls. It echoes throughout Rockland.
It’s symbolic of how far we have come.
Twenty-four years ago, our Jewish Community Campus was housed on Route 45–in a much smaller, less-sophisticated space. Back then, we did a walk from Route 45 to our current West Nyack location, called the Community Walk to Our Future. This represented where we wanted to be, and what we wanted to stand for in the community.
Because it’s a challenge! Symbolic of what we have become–what we offer, and what we stand still for. Sometimes, an uphill battle. Other times, cruising along!
Our West Nyack campus is solidified as our home today. This walk–held Sunday Oct. 27, is titled Walk for the Future. Join me as a proud participant to help us grow and evolve with the changing needs of our community.
All walkers will be honored with the responsibility of raising money from the community. All funds will be used to support the capital needs of the Rockland Jewish Community Campus, a non-profit organization that includes our J.
Walk with me! There are a few options: Walk the entire 26.2, 13.1, or walk the final mile. Myself and other Fitness Team members are here to help with prep, training programs, advice, etc. Even though walking is one of the most accessible and doable forms of exercise, you do need to prepare and train so you can go the distance, and feel good.

So when you see me training the Russin Fitness and Wellness Center and walking around Rockland – know that I am doing it all with a sense of pride to represent our J today, and for our future. I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish together!
