On September 7-14, a small team from Ambassador will be traveling to Wales to assist Christ Church Presbyterian (www.barryepc.org), a small congregation of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of England and Wales (EPCEW), where our ARP missionaries Drew and Lauren Goodman are serving. You may ask why Wales? Christianity in the UK (and most of Europe) has been in steady decline for decades. In recent years, there has been a renewed vision in the EPCEW to see gospel-centered, reformed churches revitalized and planted. The ARP is partnering in this effort, and Ambassador has supported the Goodman's for several years.
Ambassadors team is going in response to the Goodman's request with three overall goals:
1. To encourage and support the Goodman's and Christ Church as they seek to move into an old historic church building in the center of town and be a gospel presence and witness in the community.
2. To help with renovation on the kitchen area of the building and assist in outreach efforts particularly to families with children.
3. To explore if and how future short-term mission teams from Ambassador can effectively serve and support this church in its mission.
During the trip, our team will worship and meet with the congregation at Christ Church (Pastor Harvey will preach on Sunday). We will participate in a church outreach to the community during the week inviting and encouraging families and individuals to a Christianity Explored class at the church. We will help install cabinets and ceiling tiles in the church kitchen which they hope to be able to use for ministry to the community. And we will meet with the Goodmans, the Cochrans (ARP missionaries in neighboring Oxford) and church members to discuss how APC's partnership and future short-term trips might be most helpful.
The team consists of Warren and Cathy Harvey, Steve Brown, Erin Camp, Rachel Kennedy and Mitchell Henry. We ask that you would please be in prayer for our team as we make final preparations, raise support, and prepare our hearts and hands for ministry. Pray for the Goodmans and the people of Christ Church, as they seek to be a gospel presence and witness in Barry. Pray for our team and for Ambassador, that God would give us grace to serve and partner well with our brothers and sisters in Wales.
The cost for the trip including travel, lodging, food, and supplies for the construction work to be done is $1800 per person or $10,800 for the entire team. Team members are already raising support individually outside of Ambassador.
