Over the past few months, I've been training very (VERY) lightly for the Tampa Bay Frogman, a 5k swim across Tampa Bay that raises money for the Navy SEAL Foundation. As my friend Charlie says, "There are countries that use the metric system, and there are countries that put a man on the moon" – so to put it another way, I'm swimming over three miles in the open water in Janaury. The water will be cold, choppy, and sharky. Perhaps even more dangerous is that I'll have my family in the water with me – my father as a swimmer, and my mother paddling a support boat.
My support boat will be captained by Bruce Jewett, a Underwater Demolitions Team veteran from the Vietnam War and my grandfather's first mate on their commercial fishing boat. I'm honored to have Bruce as my support boat kayaker not only for his service to the country, but for his ability to fend off sharks with a paddle.
I would be honored and grateful if you would donate to the Navy SEAL Foundation through my page and support my bid in the race.
Menu of Giving Options
100% of the proceeds are donated to the Navy SEAL Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non profit, which supports the men and families of Naval Special Warfare.
$50 – A vote for me to win (won't happen – there are 3x gold Olympians here)
$75 – Decreases the likelihood of getting hit with a paddle by a support boat
$100 – The Claremont Special, a vote for me to drown
$150 – When I'm cursing the cold, the thought of this gift will keep me warm
$200 – Increases the water temp by 1º
$250 – Shark repellant
Any amount is much appreciated.
The goal of the Frogman swim is to provide support for the Naval Special Warfare Community and perpetuate the history and heritage of the U.S. Naval Commandos. The proceeds to the Tampa Bay Frogman Swim will be used to provide injury assistance to Navy SEALs and tragedy assistance for families who have lost a loved one in training or combat. The swim presents a challenging endeavor to provide a small reminder of the hardships endured by our elite and silent warriors while encouraging others to support and donate to the cause. Come help us "never leave a man behind."
Thank you to all of you who donate. Thank you to my father for swimming with me; my mother for joining us in the water; Bruce, for captaining the kayak; and my employer, Strategic Property Partners, for becoming an official Frogman sponsor.
