Leah and Lance are competing in Dancing with Boulder Stars 2019! Based on the hit TV show, this event features local celebrities who are partnered with professional dancers. The teams undergo an exhilarating rehearsal process which culminates in a live dance competition at the historic Boulder Theater on Wednesday, November 6th.
Fans of the teams vote for their favorite via donations which benefit YWCA Boulder County. The team that raises the most wins the championship! These contributions support essential services in our community, such as emergency drop-in child care, youth empowerment programs, and racial equity programs. ABOUT LEAH ALEXIS
Leah Alexis is the Director of Community Engagement at Premier Mortgage Group (PMG) and owner of La Dolce Events. A true humanitarian, Leah got her start fifteen years ago working for the nonprofit BeadforLife and that has shaped her professional journey ever since. Empowering women to create their own businesses on the other side of the world led her to put her leadership and networking skills to use by starting her own event planning company. Meanwhile, her current position at PMG allows her to bring communities and businesses together so they can learn from one another and create a symbiotic relationship that spurs real community change for the better. Leah’s personal motto is Shakespeare’s ,“This above all, to thine own self be true” and she has maintained that in all aspects of her life.
When not working you can find Leah volunteering for one of the many nonprofits she is involved with: Attention Homes, Boulder Ballet, Cultivate, Community Food Share, There With Care, YWCA, Shining Mountain Waldorf School and many more. A longtime equestrian, she enjoys horseback riding and hiking with her dog and husband. Leah is always up for an adventure and did not hesitate when her friends on the board of the YWCA asked her to participate this year in Dancing with Boulder Stars. The mission strongly resonates with her and she believes that now more than ever, it is time to come together support each other and have equality for all! www.pmglending.com
ABOUT LANCE HARDIN
Lance is currently the Associate Artistic Director at Boulder Ballet. Originally from Chicago, he earned his BS in Ballet Performance from Indiana University and worked professionally with Pittsburgh Ballet, Charlotte Ballet and Milwaukee Ballet before moving to Colorado. He has taught extensively since college and has offered several choreographic workshops across the country. When not dancing, you can find Lance working on his patience by desperately trying to learn how to play the bass guitar. His life motto is that “each day is a new day to honor your past and plan your future”.
Lance learned about the event and the work of the YWCA from his dance partner, Leah Alexis, who is on the board of the Boulder Ballet. He feels a strong connection to the mission of the YWCA as a black man in the USA and being a proud son of a single mother. Lance is excited to use his dancing to help promote the mission. In the end, he believes that dancing is about sharing and he hopes to encourage others to share in their own way as well. www.boulderballet.org
