Voices of Concinnity is a vocal chamber ensemble in northeast Connecticut striving to engage the community in quality, living choral music by fostering inclusion--from the role of the singers, to the connection made with audiences, by exploring representation in choral music, and offering affordable access to choral music.
The initial response to this global pandemic canceled singing as a safety precaution against spreading the virus. But for our musicians, singing is who we are. With resiliency and creativity, we are motivated to emerge from this hiatus and resume our mission.
Live, indoor performances are still considered unsafe, but performing is the primary way we connect with those who enjoy and support our art. After being unable to perform for the last six months, we now invite you to partner with us so that we can expand our reach in the community through choral music. Your donation will help us directly fund the “Unconventional Space” project. We will perform portions of our upcoming season, “Woven Skies” in places you wouldn’t ordinarily expect to experience choral music. These in-person, socially-distanced, outdoor performances will be recorded and shared with the community online. Your generous support will allow us to produce these video experiences and share them at no cost to the community, adhering to our dedication to affordable access. In a world that has felt quiet for too long, we appreciate you joining us to fill unconventional spaces with song.
More about Concinnity:
Established in 2018, Voices of Concinnity is a 12-voice vocal chamber ensemble of dedicated, seasoned choral artists from diverse backgrounds who strive to cultivate the art of ensemble singing. Founding and artistic director, Sarah Kaufold, envisioned this ensemble as an opportunity for inclusion among the singers that extends to the audience. An ensemble that explored challenging repertoire, but allowed for flexible rehearsals to accommodate the busy professional lives of the singers was an inclusive direction. A choral experience that encouraged singing with a free tone, but also explored the singers interacting with each other and coming to agreement musically through collaboration furthered this ideal.
The word "concinnity" means the harmonious arrangement or fitting together of the different parts of something. Their sound, described as "silky smooth butter in musical form" by an audience member, Concinnity works to maximize overtones and unity of sound to create a harmonious, artful landscape of voices.
After our first full season, we have chosen to explore representation in choral music and to find ways to actively interact with the audience. Offering affordable access for the community to experience this incredible choral music, Voices of Concinnity is dedicated to creating innovative and provocative music programs that encourage the engagement of the community in quality, living music.
Voices of Concinnity is sponsored by Consonare Choral Community, a non-profit choral organization in northeast Connecticut that strives to build community through choral music.
