Grassroots, independent media is the lifeblood of any people's struggle for de-colonization and self-determination! Currently, the people of Haiti are engaged in a massive struggle against the repressive, puppet regime of Jovenel Moise, installed and sustained by the US government. There have been wave upon wave of strikes by teachers and other workers, student protests, and peasant mobilizations-- all demanding human rights, real democracy, and Haitian self-determination. Inside of Haiti, the ability of these activists to communicate with each other and with the Haitian public in general, not to mention with the world, depends upon radio media. Unfortunately, the mainstream radio stations and infrastructure are dominated by the Haitian elite and right-wing forces. Since the 2004 coup, pro-democracy activists, including journalists, have faced lethal repression and progressive radio stations such as Radio Timoun have been struggling just to survive. By giving generously to this fundraiser, you will be helping the grassroots movement for liberation buy the necessary radio equipment, such as a radio tower, that will allow human rights journalists to freely broadcast across the island and to the world. The cost of such equipment and the tower come to $50,000. Please give generously! All donations go to Haiti Emergeny Relief Fund/ East Bay Sanctuary Covenant and are tax deductible.
