Join NFL Hall of Famer and former Oakland Raider Tim Brown along with his wife Sherice Brown in supporting Vogel Alcove's quest to win the Purple Purse Challenge to launch an all-new Parent Opportunity Center for Dallas-area homeless families. Thanks to support from the Mavs Foundation and its partners, the Center is ready and equipped to serve client families, but funding is still needed to start operations. Will you help us win the Purple Purse Challenge, so we can test and refine two-generation strategies to help families move out of poverty, not just homelessness?
It's our goal to empower homeless families by creating new, game-changing approaches to supporting and preparing parents without access to social support networks, basic job market readiness training and/or career advancement opportunities the resources necessary to break the cycle of poverty for themselves and their children. When Vogel wins, Dallas wins!
Over 3,000 children in Dallas, Texas, are homeless... And approximately 92% of young mothers experiencing homelessness have been victims of physical and/or sexual abuse at some point in their lives (if not currently). Therefore, it is not hard to imagine why homeless moms often have high rates of major depressive disorders, post-traumatic responses and anxiety disorders, all of which affect their capacity to parent and support their children. They may—at any point in time—feel angry, sad, afraid, guilty and hopeless. More importantly, it's easy to see how 1 in 3 homeless children will have a mental disorder by age 8.
Vogel Alcove provides hope for a better future. A future of stability, self-sufficiency and safety for children and families in Dallas, Texas, struggling to survive without a home of their own. Children receive high-quality, no-cost therapeutic early education services to help them overcome the lasting and traumatic effects of homelessness. Parents, most of which are young women, are provided valuable social support services and resources to help them effectively navigate the process of successfully transitioning their families out of homelessness.
Your financial gift to Vogel Alcove empowers local families, especially single female led households, fighting daily to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness in their lives as well as the lives of their children. By eliminating the often unaffordable cost of child care services for homeless families, you help parents already grappling with how to stabilize life for their little ones begin to make greater strides toward self-sufficiency at a faster pace. Your support also ensures that the trauma of homelessness will not negatively affect the early development and kindergarten readiness of the infants, toddler and preschoolers enrolled at Vogel Alcove.
