Veterans Leadership Program is a nationally-known premier Veteran service organization based in Western Pennsylvania. For nearly 40 years, we’ve worked to empower Veterans navigating their transition from service members to citizens. With your help, VLP will have the opportunity to provide emergency financial assistance to local Veterans and their families that are currently experiencing a financial crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Annually, VLP serves upwards of 4,000 Veterans and their families throughout 20 counties in western and central Pennsylvania. Many of these Veterans are currently experiencing loss of income or employment, testing positive for COVID-19, and cannot obtain necessary foods and resources. VLP’s focus during this time has been to consistently support local Veterans however possible. Additional funding will allow further needs to be met in our region.
VLP has seen a drastic increase in the need for this emergency financial assistance funding, especially those Veterans and their families experiencing food instability and a housing crisis. In the past 6 weeks alone, VLP staff have distributed over 1,500 shares of food through both our Veteran community food distributions and safely delivering to Veteran households. Even though evictions have been halted during this pandemic state-wide, rental and utility payments still need to be made to ensure long-term housing stability. VLP’s employment program has also seen a drastic increase in the need for employment assistance and job leads. This funding will provide the necessary financial assistance in order for Veterans to obtain transportation, child care, and the resources necessary to obtain and maintain employment. VLP’s Service Providers provide tailored case management to Veterans of all ages, including wellness checks for Veterans who are seniors. Many of VLP’s clients live alone and the VLP staff have increased communication with all clients to ensure safety and care is provided to all in need.
We truly appreciate your time, consideration, and the opportunity to, with your help, better serve our local Veterans and their families during this pandemic crisis.
