1. Why did the Maine Marathon make the race virtual?
Due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, race organizers decided that the 2020 Gorham Savings Bank Maine Marathon, Half Marathon, and Relay, originally scheduled for Sunday, October 4, will take place virtually over two weeks for the safety of all.
2. What is a virtual race?
Participants pick their own route and run/walk anytime between September 26 – October 12 wherever they are in the world. The Maine Marathon course is available for those who want to run on it, but there will not be water stops or aid stations. Participants should adhere to safety and health guidelines wherever they decide to run.
3. What if I want to run officially with the Maine Marathon virtual event and be a part of the Marr Team?
Great! You can read the details of being a registered Maine Marathon participant here and register here. Please email BWHteam@partners.org if you register with the Maine Marathon officially, so we are able to monitor our official team registrants.
In addition, to join the Marr Team, follow these steps:
1. Create your GoFundMe Charity Page
2. Add your name to the Marr Team Roster
4. What if I want to be a part of the Marr Team Event but not register with the Maine Marathon?

3. Defer until 2021
6. Is there a fundraising minimum to participate on the Marr Team?
No. However, participants who raise $150+ will receive a Marr Fund shirt and there are additional prizes the more you raise.
7. Is there an event at Dockside or post-race party this year?
For the safety of all runners, volunteers, and supporters, there will not be an event at Dockside or post-race party in 2020. Gear and incentives will be mailed to eligible participants.
8. How will participants receive gear and incentives?
A Brigham staff member will reach out to eligible participants and mail the item(s).
