---------- THIS CAMPAIGN HAS ENDED ---------
Our heartfelt thank-you goes to each and every donor! Because of your generosity, pro-bono lawyers will receive more training to advise legal aid clients, high school students considering a career in law will learn hands-on about the legal system, and Virginians will learn more about the Rule of Law (see below).
All donations will flow into the Virginia Law Foundation grant fund which awards annual grants of more than $500,000 to not-for-profits that share at least one facet of our three-pronged mission to increase access to legal aid, promote legal education and the Rule of Law.

One of the core facets of the Virginia Law Foundation’s mission is to support legal education. For example, our educational division, Virginia CLE, has provided the Commonwealth with high quality continuing legal education for decades. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, however, as the Virginia Law Foundation’s dedication to legal education throughout the Commonwealth does not stop at Virginia CLE’s front door.
Every year since 1984, we have awarded grants to not-for-profits in Virginia who support our three-pronged mission to promote the Rule of Law, increase access to justice, and to enhance legal education. The funds we have been able to give back to the Commonwealth have increased over the years and in 2020, we were proud to provide over half a million dollars in grants across two dozen organizations. However, the need continues to grow as the outbreak of COVID-19 shows its widespread effects. This point is proven by the fact that while we were able to raise more than $500,000 last year, our 2020 grant requests by Virginia not-for-profits totaled more than a million dollars.
As educational institutions for all ages begin to re-open and as the Virginia Mandatory Continuing Legal Education deadline approaches, our campaign focuses on the legal education work we help fund. If you’d like to learn more about the type of projects your donation could support, take a look at the important work of just a few of our legal education grant recipients:
•The Virginia Civics Education’s “We the People” Curriculum increases middle and high school teacher and student knowledge of the U.S. Constitution, the Rule of Law, institutions of government, rights and responsibilities, and citizenship.
•The John Marshall Foundation’s Justice in the Classroom Program brings federal and state judges into public school classrooms for presentations and discussions with students about the constitutional foundation of our nation, our three co-equal branches of government, the Rule of Law, and the role of the judiciary in preserving the rights and liberties of all citizens.
•The Center for Teaching the Rule of Law’s Rule of Law Project is an educational web-based program that educates citizens about the Rule of Law as the foundation for civil societies.
•Virginia Law School Public Service Internships help teach law students the importance of public interest and pro bono work through hands-on training in real world contexts.
•The Virginia Holocaust Museum, through its exhibits, archival collections, educational programming, and outreach, explores the history of the Holocaust and other genocides.Virginia Law Foundation funding supported the creation of a Nuremberg Courtroom Exhibit as well as an Annual Rule of Law Day Program.
•The Supreme Court of Virginia’s Judicial Learning Center tells the story of Virginia’s judiciary history, providing a valuable educational resource for visitors to the Supreme Court building, which include elementary and high school students, leadership groups, civil organizations, and individuals from every corner of the state.
•The Virginia State Bar Diversity Conference’s Hill Tucker Pre-Law Institute seeks to increase diversity in the legal profession by teaching potential future lawyers at an early age through a week of seminars on career opportunities, college prep, and a mock trial.
