Vijay's 2018 runs for UNICEF
2018 marks a personal milestone in my life. While I come to terms with the ebbing of my youthful exuberance, I also recognize that I, like many of you, lead a very fortunate and privileged life. I am thus hoping to make an impact in these stark times of inflamed rhetoric, lack of empathy and resulting desperate plight of children fleeing bloody wars, and our rapidly dwindling wildlife.
Many of you know that I have been actively supporting UNICEF and WWF for the past several years. One of the challenges I’m setting myself is to run at least 2 half marathons next year and use these a way to combine personal goals with raising awareness and sorely needed funds. And I need your help.
Please consider donating to UNICEF or WWF on my behalf. To add a fun element and nudge me to run harder and longer, you can also consider a donation for every mile I run in 2018 — $1 per mile, 50 cents/mile or 33 cents/mile for the total distance I run in 2018. Or of course multiples of these :) Anything helps, so I (UNICEF and WWF) will gladly accept any amount however. Realistically, I am targeting running a total of between 300 and 500 miles for the year 2018 — so rest assured I won’t bankrupt you completely! I will commit to posting updates monthly, and will set up a system to target more frequent monitoring than that. I will request your donations based on my progress twice this year — August 2018, and again at the end of Dec 2018.
Please email me as well if you donate and please do a company match if your organization supports it. Thanks in advance!
