Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9983 in Holly Ridge is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping Veterans, their families, and the local community. The post was burglarized on July 28th, 2019 which has created a significant financial burden on the organization. We estimate that it will take between $8,000 to $10,000 to recover from the physical and financial damages. We need to replace a double metal security door with locks, an interior office door, a safe and money that was stored inside, flooring, and upgrade the security system to deter future burglaries. It takes our volunteers thousands of hours every year to raise money a few dollars at a time to support our local Veterans and community. We do not receive government assistance or grants. We also have to raise money for the building expenses, maintenance, utilities, insurance, and other expenses. Our dedicated volunteers generously give their time and money to support local Veterans in need. We have built wheelchair ramps for Veterans recently discharged from the hospital so they could continue being as independent as possible. We have donated thousands of dollars to homeless shelters and halfway houses that primarily support Veterans. We have donated thousands of dollars worth of camping equipment and clothing to homeless veterans to ease their burdens. We have donated money to scholarship funds to help deserving young people accomplish their goals. The VFW is a very generous organization nationally, in NC State, and in our local community. The VFW truly appreciates your support in helping us recover from the burglary damages. We will always find a way to help Veterans in need but rely heavily on our members to contribute. We are asking the community that we have supported for decades to support us in our time of need, so that we may continue helping the community in their time of need.
