Veterans at PRTR works on Horsemanship and Connections with Equines and Each Other. They also serve as Volunteers in the Therapy Programs, working as Equine Handlers or SideWalkers. Some teachers and therapists at PRTR are also Veterans, or spouses of Veterans.

Why Horses and Veterans?
One of the reasons horses are successful partners with veterans or first responders is that both horses and service members are hypervigilant. As prey animals, horses are always aware of what is happening around them.
One goal of the veterans Horsemanship program is to keep the left side of the brain engaged and reinforce the skill of being present - through horsemanship exercises.
Through meaningful individual and group interactions with our horses, we work on creating safe, fair, and effective horse-human relationships. Horsemanship also helps veterans reinforse skills such as self-awareness, self-confidence, verbal and non-verbal communication skills, and emotional regulation.
Come join us - and please donate to PRTR while you're here. Thanks.
